2023 KAPAL BioForum: Biotechnology Market Trend & Industry Outlook (Thursday, June 29, 2023 – 6:30 PM ~ 9:00 PM EDT @ Embassy of the Republic of Korea)

2023년 DMV 지역 (DC, Maryland, and Virginia)에서 개최되는 첫번째 바이오포럼에 여러분을 초대합니다. 

카팔에서는 오는 6/29일 “바이오시장 현황 및 전망”이란 주제로 다양한 전문 연사를 섭외하여 정보교류의 시간을 갖고자 하오니 적극적인 참여 부탁드립니다.

KAPAL has organized a variety of expert speakers on the topic of “Biotechnology Market Trend & Industry Outlook” on June 29th. We aim to provide a platform for information exchange, and we kindly request your active participation. 

(In-Person) The in-person event will start at 6:30 PM (Eastern Time) at the Korean Embassy. There will be networking opportunities and dinner provided. Following that, invited speakers will present on their respective topics, followed by a question and answer session.
* In-person attendees are required to bring identification when arriving at the event venue ( Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington DC).
** Due to dinner arrangements and limited seating capacity, it is important to accurately determine the number of in-person attendees. Therefore, please select the “In-Person Ticket” option only if you plan to attend the event in person. 

(Virtual) For those participating virtually (via webinar), the presentations by the invited speakers will be live-streamed starting at 7:30 PM (Eastern Time).

Korea Health Industry Development Institute(KHIDI) is a government-affiliated institution which provides professional and systematic support to develop domestic health industry and enhance health services since its establishment in 1999. As the nation’s only one organization in responsible for fostering health industry, KHIDI has been playing a major role in the industry development in fields of health services, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and beauty-cosmetic.

KHIDI is looking for “Connect & Development Science Advisory Board(C&D SAB)” who can provide consulting services to Korean pharmaceutical companies for new drug development and global commercialization.

1. Job Description

Provide online/offline consulting for Korean companies through e-mail, phone calls, etc

국내 기업의 미국 시장 진출 전방위적으로 지원할 것

[바이오타임즈] 한국제약바이오협회(회장 원희목)는 17일부터 18일(현지 시각)까지 미국 워싱턴DC에서 미국 제약협회, 연구개발, 유통 등 다양한 채널의 파트너들과 연쇄적 미팅을 통해 글로벌 오픈 이노베이션 강화에 나섰다.

우선 원희목 회장은 17일 워싱턴DC에서 미국제약연구제조사협회(US PhRMA)를 방문, 신약 개발과 관련된 정부 정책공유 및 정보교류 확대 등을 위한 협력 증진 방안을 논의했다. PhRMA는 미국에서 연구개발(R&D) 지출액이 연평균 2,500억 원을 넘는 34개 혁신 제약바이오기업들로 구성된 단체다.

원 회장은 이날 방문에서 최근 급성장하는 한국 제약바이오산업의 경쟁력을 소개하면서 국내 산업계의 신약 개발 가속화와 성과 도출 등을 위해 US PhRMA와 협력을 추진하고 싶다는 의지를 밝혔다. 이에 제이 테일러 US PhRMA 수석 부사장은 한국 제약바이오기업들의 경쟁력을 주목하고 있다면서 향후 한국제약바이오협회와 정책공유 및 정보교환 등 지속적인 교류를 희망한다고 화답했다.

원 회장은 이와 함께 한미생명과학인협회(KAPAL) 연례 심포지엄에도 참석, 양 협회 간의 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다. KAPAL은 워싱턴DC를 중심으로 한인 생명과학 및 제약바이오 관련 전문가들이 협력하고, 공동 발전을 도모하는 비영리단체다.

두 협회 간의 업무협약 체결은 미국 식품의약국(FDA)·국립보건원(NIH) 등 의약품 규제기관이 있는 워싱턴DC에서 한인 생명과학자단체와 정보 및 인적교류 측면에서 실질적으로 협력하는 등 국내 제약바이오산업 발전을 도모하기 위해 이뤄졌다. 원 회장은 지난 6월에도 미국 현지를 방문, 한국바이오혁신센터 개소식 참석 등 국내 제약바이오기업들의 미국 시장 진출 지원을 위한 교류의 물꼬를 튼 바 있다.

현지에서 개최된 KAPAL 연례 심포지엄에는 원희목 회장과 윤성태 협회 이사장(휴온스글로벌 회장), 김상희 주미대사관 보건복지관, 박순만 한국보건산업진흥원 미국지사장 등 150여 명이 참석했다.

심포지엄에서는 한국제약바이오협회 주관으로 FDA·NIH 전문가 특별 세션도 마련됐다. 원희목 회장은 인사말을 통해 “수백 명의 한국계 전문가들이 FDA 및 NIH 등 미국의 의약품 규제기관에서 활약하는 모습이 자랑스럽고 뿌듯하다”면서 “앞으로도 한·미 경제협력 및 우호 관계 증진에 가교역할을 해줄 것을 기대한다”고 말했다.

특별 세션은 첨단 재생의료 세포치료제 규제 및 연구개발(FDA 성경은 박사), 신약 개발·허가를 위한 실사용 데이터(RWD)·실사용 증거(RWE)에 대한 현황과 도전과제(FDA 이주연 박사), NIH 연구비 지원 및 펀딩 메커니즘(NIH 오영석 박사) 등의 주제로 진행됐다.

원 회장은 이어서 18일 미국헬스케어유통연합(HDA) 페리 엘 프라이 최고경영책임자(COO) 등 집행부와 간담회를 갖고 국내 제약바이오기업의 미국 의약품 유통 시장 진출 전략을 논의했다. HDA는 미국 의약품 유통업체를 대표하는 조직으로, 유통기업 35개 사, 제조기업 125개 사 등이 미국 전역 수만 개의 약국, 병원, 장기 요양 시설, 진료소 등과 연결고리 역할을 수행한다.

지난 8월 HDA 제조사 멤버십에 가입한 협회는 이번 간담회를 통해 국내 제약바이오기업들과 향후 HDA의 연례 행사에 참여하고, 미국 유통사와 네트워킹을 통한 현지 진출을 지원키로 했다.

원 회장은 협회 대표단의 미국 방문 일정을 끝내고 20일 귀국하기에 앞서 “우리 제약바이오산업이 내수 시장을 넘어 글로벌 시장에서 성공하기 위해서는 현지 전문가들과 보다 적극적으로 교류하고 연대하며, 상생을 통한 성장과 발전을 도모해나가야 한다”며 “협회는 국내 제약바이오산업의 해외 현지 네트워크 강화와 인프라 구축을 통해 국내 기업의 미국 시장 진출을 전방위적으로 지원하겠다”고 밝혔다
